There is a fascinating background to the Cambodia casinos that lie just across the border from next door Thailand, in which gambling den gaming is banned. Eight gambling halls are situated in a relatively tiny location in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent destination, a 3 to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular betting locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai laborers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal capital accrued from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of controls constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; although, funding sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00, and despite the fact visas are for all intents and purposes needed to cross, there are ways around this, as is accurate of most border crossings.
The initial Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only 1 gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary ship gambling den, highlights 150 one armed bandits and 60 gaming tables. The Naga gambling den never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of vingt-et-un, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon followed. A total of 150 slots and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slot machine games and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and 96 table games, including 87 punto banco (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and 66 of the normal tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international resort and hotel compound that features a number of comforts aside from the gambling hall, which offers 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty slots and 88 tables.
