There is an appealing history to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just over the border from nearby Thailand, where casino wagering is not permitted. Eight gambling halls are anchored in a generally tiny location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent destination, a three to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest gambling locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal capital gained from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million, and there are a few controls constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mainly Thai; although, funding sources are cryptic. The borders are formally open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and though visas are apparently required to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is true of many border crossings.

The 1st Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only 1 casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored boat gambling hall, contains 150 slot machines and sixty tables. The Naga gambling hall never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, 4 tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The initial gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown before long opened. There are 150 slots and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slot machines and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and sixty six of the normal gaming tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-around resort and hotel compound that features a number of amenities in addition to the gambling den, which offers 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and 88 tables.
